{Destination Wedding} Lake Superior’s North Shore

16 Nov

Last winter, I spent some time in Northern California. While I was there, I did some serious exploring and loved every minute of it. By far, the best part was Big Sur, with amazing views at every hairpin turn on Highway 1 (above).

Although Minnesota doesn’t have the warm coastal beaches of California, we do have the North Shore of Lake Superior. Duluth and northward makes for a great escape from the city, all within an easy afternoon drive from Minneapolis.

If you’re thinking of a destination wedding, don’t forget about the great spots in Minnesota that would make for a great mini-getaway wedding. It’s almost as fun as doing a long-distance destination wedding (Mexico and the like), but you can still mix in some Minnesota woodsy and coastal flavor.

One wedding-worthy destination north of Duluth is is Blue Fin Bay, a resort on the shoreline on Lake Superior and also voted “Minnesota’s Most Romantic Resort“. I’m also partial since that’s where I honeymooned with my hubby. But, seriously, how beautiful is that shoreline? You can hardly tell the difference between our coast and California’s.

Duluth has beautiful venues too, including the Greysolon Ballroom and Glensheen, the Historic Cogden Estate. Whether you go north of Duluth or not, there are stunning venues and vistas anywhere along the North Shore for weddings and receptions.
