{What I DIY’d} Painted Ceramic Dishware

4 Dec

A departure from weddings and into an easy DIY project. All it takes is a plain dish, a food-safe ceramic paint pen (such as Porcelaine 150), masking tape and a pattern/phrase to transform a plain dish from this:

to THIS:

It’s a herringbone pattern – the lines aren’t perfect, but they weren’t supposed to be. I used some tape to make sure the columns were generally the same width and free-handed the rest of the lines.

After painting your dish, follow the instructions on the paint pen packaging, which is usually to let it dry for 24 hours and then bake it in an oven at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes. And, don’t preheat the oven – it will crack your dishes and you will be a sad DIY’er. Check out what Kristin did with her mug here.

Check back later this week for some herringbone wedding inspiration!
