{A Very Twitter} Real Wedding 1.21.12

8 Feb

A & E’s wedding was infused with personality and their love story. A big part of that story is Twitter and the blogosphere.  I had the opportunity to coordinate their wedding on the day of. The ceremony was held at Church of the Epiphany in Plymouth with a reception at the ultra-cool bowling alley/reception hall of Elsie’s in Northeast Minneapolis.

Bridesmaids wore their choice of black dresses. The bride wore a stunning birdcage veil with a turquoise flower accent in her side-swept hair and the groom wore a snazzy bow-tie and equally snazzy beard (he’s the founder of the Minnesota Beard-Off).

A Twitter thread was woven throughout their festivities – guests participated on their Tweet Wall via TweetWally during the reception. Haven’t heard of a Tweet Wall? Here’s what they did: chose a specific tag for their wedding (i.e. #OurWedding12.24.12) which guests include in their tweets about the wedding and are then grouped together and projected onto a wall, making a Tweet Wall.

Thanks to A & E and congrats on your marriage!

Why You Need a Wedding Planner

5 Jan

I’ll be honest, when I was a bride-to-be, I didn’t even consider hiring a wedding planner or coordinator for my wedding. Like everyone else I knew who had been married, I relied on family and friends pitching in to get things done and on myself to get the bridal party and family at the right place at the right time. While this did not end in disaster or remotely close to it, I look back on the logistics of the day and often wish that I had someone (apart from family & friends) to make sure things were in order on the day-of.

Christmas is just around the corner. Can you believe it? Winter weddings are not for the weak of heart, especially in Minnesota. I have tromped to many a wedding midst blizzards and seriously sub-zero temperatures. But, it is always worth it in the end and usually makes for a great story, as well. Continue reading

{DIY} Chalkboard Placecards

As I raved about earlier this week, I’m in serious like with these chalkboards that are springing up all over – kitchen walls, wedding receptions, everywhere. Here is a great tutorial on how to make some chalkboard placecards. You could incorporate these into a more intimate wedding or rehearsal dinner. The boards also double as favor, saving you some cha-ching! Continue reading

{Wedding Design} Chalk It Up

30 Nov

Chalkboards are definitely an up and coming trend in weddings. The chalkboard look is becoming more popular in home design, as well – just like the inspiration mantle from The Lettered Cottage. For DIY projects, you can pick up a can of Benjamin Moore Chalkboard paint to paint on inexpensive plywood for your seating charts, welcome signs or decor around your reception. Continue reading

{Destination Wedding} Lake Superior’s North Shore

16 Nov

Last winter, I spent some time in Northern California. While I was there, I did some serious exploring and loved every minute of it. By far, the best part was Big Sur, with amazing views at every hairpin turn on Highway 1 (above).

Although Minnesota doesn’t have the warm coastal beaches of California, we do have the North Shore of Lake Superior. Duluth and northward makes for a great escape from the city, all within an easy afternoon drive from Minneapolis. Continue reading
