{Wedding Details} Calligraphy

15 Feb

I’ve always admired the beautiful, handwritten script of wedding invitations. Recently, I’ve begun an awesome community ed course called Basic Calligraphy. I’ve learned so much already, including that calligraphy is not about coming in with good handwriting, it’s another form of drawing. It’s like starting kindergarten again, learning to hold your pencil and then pen correctly, tracing the letter forms to learn muscle memory, and practicing.

Although my script is far from the likes of what is seen on Style Me Pretty or others, it is a stepping stone. I continue to be inspired by beautiful script and the artistic talent of those who make it. Calligraphy is truly an art form.

Calligraphy is a wonderful way to incorporate a handmade feeling into your wedding day. Whether it be the invitations, programs, or escort cards, calligraphy is one detail that is often overlooked by those planning in favor of (gasp!) printed alternatives. I will argue that the details make all the difference, and this is one detail that I can’t get enough of.

{A Very Twitter} Real Wedding 1.21.12

8 Feb

A & E’s wedding was infused with personality and their love story. A big part of that story is Twitter and the blogosphere.  I had the opportunity to coordinate their wedding on the day of. The ceremony was held at Church of the Epiphany in Plymouth with a reception at the ultra-cool bowling alley/reception hall of Elsie’s in Northeast Minneapolis.

Bridesmaids wore their choice of black dresses. The bride wore a stunning birdcage veil with a turquoise flower accent in her side-swept hair and the groom wore a snazzy bow-tie and equally snazzy beard (he’s the founder of the Minnesota Beard-Off).

A Twitter thread was woven throughout their festivities – guests participated on their Tweet Wall via TweetWally during the reception. Haven’t heard of a Tweet Wall? Here’s what they did: chose a specific tag for their wedding (i.e. #OurWedding12.24.12) which guests include in their tweets about the wedding and are then grouped together and projected onto a wall, making a Tweet Wall.

Thanks to A & E and congrats on your marriage!
